Abstract: There are two basic types of densitometers on the market today. They are the buoyancy and the vibrating or frequency type. The first type to be discussed is the buoyancy or balance densitometer. This particular device utilizes Archimedes principle in much the same manner as the old Acme balance. Archimedes states that a body partially or wholly immersed in a fluid is buoyed vertically upward by a force that is equal in magnitude to the weight of the amount of fluid displaced. This is a well-known principle and wont be discussed in this paper.
