Title: Fundamentals Of Turbine Meters

Abstract: The gas turbine meter, unlike diaphragm and rotary meters which divide the gas flow into incremental segments of volume, has an output which is proportional to the flowing gas velocity. For this reason, the turbine meter cannot be strictly classified as a positive displacement meter. However, since rotor speed is directly proportional to the rate of flow turbine meters measure volumetrically. This paper will cover the theory of operation of gas turbines, calibration standards, gas density effects on performance, piping considerations and field test methods.
