Abstract: As many of you know, Northern Illinois Gas Company installs all of its services with its own crews. However, about 40% of the more than two million feel of gas main laid each year by NI-Gas is installed by outside contractors. Naturally, work done by outside contractors has to be inspected to be sure the work is done according to specifications. NI-Gas has had inspectors on these jobs for years. However, three events occurred in the last decade that convinced us that we needed formal training for our inspectors.
