Abstract: Since 1993 E.ON Ruhrgas operates pigsarTM as one of the leading high-pressure gas calibration facilities worldwide. One major prerequisite for pigsarTMs very low uncertainty is the fact that the German national volumetric primary standard for high-pressure natural gas, the so-called High Pressure Piston Prover (HPPP), property of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, (PTB), is since 1999 an integral part of the infrastructure of pigsar. During the last few years both PTB and pigsarTM staff have continuously worked on improving the uncertainty and availability of pigsarTM. As a major result, the uncertainty of pigsarTM was reduced from initially 0,16% to currently 0,13% in the main operating regime of the facility. New projects already started are aimed at reducing this uncertainty even further down to 0,1%. This paper describes the different measures that have been or will be taken to achieve and verify these improvements.
