Abstract: Remote meter reading is simply a means for determining consumption at a location away from the meter. Remote reading sy5tems can be classified into three basic groups: direct remote, semiautomatic, and automatic meter reading systems. The direct remote system is the most common type of remote reading. It generally consists of a generator mounted on a meter which activates a remotely-located register. The meter reader visually reads the remote register and records the reading in his log book or on mark-sense cards.
