Abstract: Northern Illinois Gas Company is the sixth largest natural gas distribution company in the United States. It presently serves approximately 1,050,000 customers in a 16,240 square mile area in northern and western Illinois. It employs 3,100 persons. NI-Gas presently has approximately 450 miles of major transmission mains and 17,200 miles of distribution main. This past winter we set a new maximum day sendout of 2.7 billion cubic feet of gas. To accomplish this sendout required the operation of approximately 300 regulator stations and 1,500 regulator vaults.
