Abstract: Although thermocouples are used in thousands of applications and are the industrial workhorse for the measurement of temperatures ranging from sub-zero to approximately 4000 deg. F, the basic principles governing their operation are seldom completely understood. So let us discuss the basic laws governing thermocouples from the standpoint of their practical application in industry.
