Abstract: Licensed industrial data radios have been successfully used for gas measurement applications for over 25 years. In the past, these systems typically provided serial communication to a few critical devices that required less than 5 kbps of bandwidth (often as low as 1200 bps) and were used to achieve long distance and highly reliable communication. These Licensed radios have proven to be extremely valuable, and allow for the automation of forward-deployed devices in diverse applications.
