Abstract: Columbia Gas of Ohio has been involved with plastic pipe since 1954 when several test installations were made on company property. An all plastic 5 psi distribution system using ABS was installed in 1960 to provide service in a small rural community. By 1962 the company was renewing services on an operational basis by relining with high density polyethylene. The first plow-in by planting approximately one mile of 1-inch pipe through a chute was also made in 1962 to provide service to a microwave station. In 1967 the company went operational for direct burial service at pressures to 50 psi with polyethylene pipe in sizes through 4-inch.
