Title: FUNDAMENTALS OF NATURAL GAS LIQUIDS (NGLS
Author: Ken Haynes
Source: 2018 Appalachian Gas Measurement Short Course
Year Published: 2018
Abstract: Before discussing NGLs, it is first necessary to build some background on natural gas. Natural gas is a naturally occurring mixture of hydrocarbons (compound of hydrogen and carbon) and nonhydrocarbon gases found in porous geologic formations beneath the earths surface. Natural gas is a mixture of the hydrocarbon components of methane, ethane, propane, butane, and pentanes, with the principal constituent being methane. Natural gas also can contain non-hydrocarbon gases such as carbon, dioxide, water, hydrogen sulfide, and nitrogen.
