Abstract: In North America, almost all natural gas is measured by four types of meters diaphragm, rotary, turbine and orifice. Diaphram and rotary meters are classified as positive displacement meters, indicating, they alternately fill and empty measurement chambers of a fixed, known volume. Rotary meters have been in use for over sixty years in the gas industry. During the early years rotary meters were constructed of cast iron which made them guite heavy. In the past twenty years, rotary meters have been constructed of lightweight aluminum alloys, allowing them to be easily line mounted, The two principal manufacturers of rotary meters in the North American market are Romet Limited and Dresser Industries. In the world market, there are several other companies supplying rotary meters, including Instromet and Schlumberger.
