Abstract: This paper will provide information for use in the understanding of the fundamentals of orifice metering with an emphasis on gas measurement. The reference for specific mechanical tolerances is the American Gas Association Report No. 3, Orifice Metering of Natural Gas, published as ANSI/API standard 2530. The intent of this paper is to provide an overview of the various parts that comprise orifice metering and how these parts work together to form a meter installation.
