Abstract: It has been said that there has been, in fact, few basic changes in regulator design in the past 50 years. Much has been written of the four basic elements of a regulator, the third element is usually described as a movable valve. Basic patents on thsi movable valve or inner valve were granted some 85 to 90 years ago. Few changes have been made - these changes have been along the line of v-notch and specially contoured types of inner valves, better methods of guiding and better materials. However, basically the design has remained unchanged even though the number of manufacturers has multiplied.
