Abstract: Compressed air storage in underground reservoirs is being examined by the electric utility industry as a way of storing night time energy for use in day time. A plant using air storage in salt cavities at Huntorf, Germany is about to be completed in 1977, This paper discusses how compressed air storage would operate for peak load shaving in electric power generation. Example reservoir designs are discussed to make a comparison with natural gas storage.
