Abstract: This paper presents an overview of gas distribution network analysis methods and programs used for distribution system studies at Consumers Power Company. It presents a generalized discussion of modeling and modeling techniques with emphasis on steady and unsteady pressure flow models of gas systems. Specific examples of the use of these models are cited. The job of many natural gas engineers is to design facilities for use in situations which have not yet occurred. In an effort to predict how a particular system will respond in these situations, the engineer resorts to constructing and experimenting with a model of the system.
