Title: Regulator Sizing

Abstract: Regulator sizing can be separated into two categories (1) self-operated regulator sizing and (2) pilot-operated regulator sizing. A self-operated regulator (Figure 1) is a controller in which all the energy to operate the final controlling element (valve plug) is derived from the controlled system, through the sensing element. For a self-operated regulator, the offset in controlled pressure required to produce maximum orifice capacity is substantial therefore, sizing can be presented only by capacity curves or tables.
