Abstract: In order to determine the specific gravity of a gas, it will be well to fully understand what specific gravity really means, and why it is necessary to determine specific gravity at all. Density and specific gravity should not be confused. In chemistry and physics, the definition of density is the weight of matter per unit volume of a substance whereas, the general definition for specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of some other substance chosen as the standard.
