Abstract: Self or direct operated regulators are the simplest and most widely used regulators in the gas industry. The primary use for self-operated regulatoss is residential service. It is also used for farm taps district regulators, instrumem air controllers, relief valves, and other applications. To be classified as a self-operated regulator the downstream measured pressure must be applied directly to the loading element without an intemaediate pilot or other hardware. See figures one and two for examples of typical self-operated regulators.
