Abstract: The dehydration of natural gas with glycol solutions is attractive because of the reliability of operation, sitnplicity of the equipment, and low cost for both chemicals and utiHties. Maintenance of the glycol solution, however, is an important aspect of glycol dehydration to insure that the advantages of the process are fully reahzed. A recent survey by the A.G.A. Chemical Services Commit lee indicates that the operators are aware of the field problems encountered with glycol in these systems and of the need for glycol maintenance. The survey also revealed that widely differing approaches are taken to combat the problems, with great variation in test methods, control points, and frequency of testing. This paper will describe the major problems encountered with glycol dehydraiors and the approach taken in one laboratory to identify and solve them with the assistance of modern techniques of analytical chemistry.
