Abstract: The American Gas Association defines the orifice meter as the complete measuring unit comprised of primary and secondary elements. The primary element consists of the orifice plate, the orifice flanges or plate holder, and the adjacent pipe sections with the secondary element consisting of the differential pressure recorder, static pressure recorder, flowing temperature recorder, and any other required recording such as specific gravity or heating value. Volume determination using this type of measurement is very desirable due to its flexibility in measurement of small or large volumes over a wide range of pressures, from a vacuum to several thousands of pounds.
