Abstract: Large capacity displacement meters have found increasing acceptance as a measurement tool. This acceptance is undoubtedly due to their ability to accurately measure a wide range of flow rates at elevated line pressures. Large capacity displacement meters operate on exactly the same principle as small meters however, there are many mechanical refinements included in their design to assure long life and accurate results under more severe operating conditions. The valve gear and timing mechanism of the large meter are more elaborate to decrease the angular movement of the various bearing surfaces and to allow more accurate valve timing. Points of heavy load in large displacement meters are equipped with high quality sealed ball bearings which require no lubrication. Large displacement meters are also arranged so that they can accept more sophisticated index equipment, thus allowing better accuracies in totalizing flows.
