Abstract: The pipeline owner and operator, TransCanada PipeLines, has found that on-line inspection tools can contribute significant benefits when integrated into an overall pipeline quality assurance program. The tools complement pipeline design, operation, monitoring, and remedial action. To be used successfully, the inspection devices themselves should be designed and operated under the principles of quality assurance.
