Abstract: Recently, NACE Task Group TlO-l distributed for review and comment some proposed revisions to the existing Criteria for Cathodic Protection. It is apparent from the response that a large segment of the gas industry opposed the intended revisions. This situation focuses attention on the controversies that presently exist with respect to the field practice of cathodic protection. The following presentation is intended to identify some contentious aspects of cathodic protection and to shed some light on the nature of, and basis for, the contention.
