Abstract: For many years the gas industry has had a repu t a t i o n for supplying the n a t i o n with i t s c l e a n e st source of raw energy. Its impact on the e n v i r o n ment has been minimal with no water or a i r p o l l u t i o n and only a few i n s t a n c e s of s i g h t p o l l u t i o n. However, in more recent years t h e r e has been a growing amount of p o l l u t i o n of a d i f f e r e n t form around our d i s t r i c t gate s t a t i o n s or metering s t a t i o n s . This is noise p o l l u t i o n and it normally occurs at p r e s s u r e reducing s t a t i o n s where piping and c o n t r o l s are i n s t a l l e d above ground
