Abstract: This paper discusses the requirements and challenges of in-line allocation metering of LNG in facilities with common storage and shared offloading. Field trials conducted at an LNG test site are described and the results and conclusions of these tests are summarised. The design of the Caldon ultrasonic meter for LNG is discussed, with particular reference to the requirements for application at cryogenic temperatures and very high Reynolds numbers. The benefits of using an 8-path transducer arrangement to ensure transfer of calibration from the lab to the field are demonstrated, both analytically and with reference to the field test data.
