Abstract: In order for one to have a clear understanding of pilot operated regulators one should first have a clear definition and understanding of a gas pressure regulator. Regulators are mechanisms that automatically control or limit deviations of pressure from a selected set point. Most regulators are self-contained controllers that operate from the measured stream pressure and require no auxiliary souce of power. Control action is proportional in that the valve is positioned in proportion to the deviation of the outlet pressure for the set point.
