Abstract: For any company to provide a high level of customer service, it becomes increasingly necessary to provide its employees with a comprehensive training program that meets all their needs. At Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), apprentice service training not only teaches the knowledge and skills necessary for the gas business, but since NIPSCO is a combined utility, we also teaches the basic principles to deal with electric meter installations. Additionally, with NIPSCOs Extra Service Protection (ESP) service contract business for space heating and hot water appliances, a large portion of service training is directed towards appliance repair. Maintaining these skills through a continuing education program is mandatory to keep up with todays technologies and customer demands.
