Abstract: PCBs contaminate most natural gas transmission systems. Eradicating PCBs in these systems with minimal downtime is feasible using solvent injection. This work presents a parametric study using a model for tracking PCB migration under a variety of solvent injection scenarios. The model serves as a tool for evaluating the efficacy and efficiency of injecting solvent, as a means of removing PCBs from contaminated natural gas pipelines. The study shows that pipeline operational protocols can significantly affect solvent injection time and volume required for decontaminating a particular pipeline system.
