Title: Paper Number: 14 - 0250 The Proper Use Of Guided Wave Radar In High-Pressure Steam Loops

Abstract: A prerequisite for the SAGD process is generation of high-quality, high-temperature and high-pressure steam. Hence in this white paper, key aspects of traditional measurement technologies to measure water levels in high-pressure steam loops (e.g., high-pressure steam separators) will be broadly reviewed and compared with the newer Guided Wave Radar technology. Measuring level is critical in steam systems as this measurement is used to control water supply and corresponding steam levels. If the amount of water is not precise, efficiency will suffer. In more extreme circumstances, damage to other components from either too much water (carryover) or too little water (low water condition) can occur, shortening the steam systems lifespan.
