Abstract: In some allocation systems, it is not uncommon to experience a persistent apparent bias in the mass balance across systems, and in particular, pipelines. This loss of mass balance may be small enough to be explained by the legitimate uncertainties in the measurements of streams entering and leaving the pipeline or system. The question is: how do you tell if this is the case or not?
