Abstract: The world of electronic controls has seen some dramatic changes in the last 5 years. It used to be fairly simple to assemble a control system. By using controllers, computing and signal conditioning modules, alarm modules, sensors, etc., a control system could be designed and implemented by specifying, purchasing, and installing the modules. In fact, most systems could have been either electronically or pneumatically based, since the functions of the various modules were available in either electronic or pneumatic versions. The early electronic control systems were the functional equivalents of what had been available as pneumatic modules.
