Abstract: When the custody of crude oil is transferred from one party to another information concerning the transfer is necessary before the accounting can be accomplished. First, the total volume of fluid that is involved in the transfer must be established. This volume is a gaged or metered amount of fluid that has been corrected to a standard temperature (sixty degrees Fahrenheit). Second, the API gravity, which is also corrected to standard temperature, must be known.
