Abstract: The purpose of proving a meter is to determine its meter factor, which by definition is a number obtained dividing the actual volume of liquid that passes through a meter by the volume indicated by the meter. The purpose of the meter factor is to correct a meters indicated volume as it pertains to a particular measurement, at a particular flow rate, in a particular petroleum liquid so that the indicated volume becomes a Gross Volume. Therefore, obtaining a meter factor is the first step in calculating the Net Standard Volume of a receipt or delivery of oil.
