Abstract: Motion in the atmospheric boundary layer can be simulated with sufficient accuracy to make laboratory studies of the dispersal of cold methane plumes resulting from LNG spills useful for planning measures. Performance envelopes have been prepared to identify LNG spill scenarios which may be simulated in meteorological wind tunnels. Satisfactory agreement between diffusion characteristics in the simulated and real atmosphere has been found whenever field data have been available for making comparisons.
