Abstract: Changing gas loads have always been a problem to pressure control personnel in the gas distribution business. The most dramatic load changes occur in the winter time when temperatures sometimes change as much as 50 degrees in a matter of a few hours, which can have a pronounced effect on the demand for natural gas. All gas men are familiar with this axiom - when demand increases, the upstream pressure has to be increased to compensate and vice versa. In a very large and diverse distribution system with 50-100 controlled stations it can be quite a problem to make all the necessary pressure changes in a timely and efficient manner. We, at Entex, have developed a Mini-Computer control system to alleviate the above problem as well as many others we encounter in providing gas service to our customers in Houston.
