Abstract: Electronics probably the most discussed topic in the natural gas industry today. We now find ourselves in the midst of a computerized revolution. Our pens, pencils, tablets, and mark sense cards are rapidly being replaced with CRTs, keyboards, and mass storage memories. Meter reading is now being accomplished via the use of hand held computers which replace the traditional meter reading books or cards. Pipelines are continually monitored using complex Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA). These systems can almost instantaneously run a material balance on sections of pipeline to determine leakage or faulty metering.
