Abstract: A knowledge of the density of a flowing liquid has been an important process variable for many years. It is used in process control applications where the quality of the product is directly related to its density. It is used in chemical reactions where the reaction occurs on a mass basis and control can be more precise when the actual mass of the liquid is known. Another common use of this variable is for batch detection in pipeline operations. But one of the most important uses for the measurement of liquid density in the petroleum industry is for accurate flow measurement
