Abstract: Extending gas services onto customers property and into customers buildings gives Washington Gas another tool to provide gas service to customers who might otherwise have chosen an alternative fuel. Moving the point of service closer to the gas equipment reduced the customers piping costs and often simplified the overall piping design. The Extended Meter Supply Line or EMSL has been used successfully for several years by Washington Gas. The adoption of EMSL required changes to accommodate the engineering, safety, regulatory, and administrative needs of this new process to make it work smoothly and effectively.
