Abstract: The value of hydrocarbon fluids is based upon basic customer expectations for delivery of a certain amount of a specific product at a certain time. These are universal customer expectations that apply to all products of value. Such expectations imply a requirement for a system to facilitate product movement and quality control. The measurement process is a critical component of such a system, providing process feedback data in the form of quantity, flow rate, pressure, and temperature for controlling movement. The measurement process also provides product composition for quality control. Hydrocarbon measurement can be considered a critical process, receiving certain inputs and performing certain tasks to produce results (data) to help facilitate the delivery of an expected amount of a certain product at an expected time.
