Abstract: A control valve is used primarily to match fluid flow to the demand. It is used as a primary restricting device in regulation and control of pressure and flow. It is mostly used for throttling service. However, it can be also used for On/Off service such as tube switching or liquid level control. A control valve in general consists of two elements - a valve body and an actuator. The actuator can be a diaphragm, piston, electrical or hydraulic equipment. Selection of the actuator primarily depends on the valve selected for the purpose. Proper selection of the control valve is e::tremely important for smooth operation and performance of the control loop and the process.
