Title: Calibration Of Liquid Density Meters

Abstract: Mass Measurement is now the accepted method for custody transfer of mixed natural gas liquids. Prior to the time that significant industry demand existed for ethane, volumetric measurement was used almost exclusively for all liquified petroleum gases. As ethane production increased, inaccuracies were detected in volumetric measurement. When ethane, along with relatively small amounts of methane and carbon dioxide, is mixed with heavier hydrocarbons, volumetric shrinkage occurs. The magnitude of the shrinkage is dependant upon composition. Mass measurement utilizing density meters is used to eliminate this problem.
