Abstract: A pressure regulator is designed to reduce and control pressure. This is done primarily to provide an adequate safety factor, increase the accuracy of measurement and efficiency of the utilization of the gas, and to increase the economy of the transmission and distribution of gas. A gas pressure regulator must be capable of reducing either a constant or variable pressure to a constant discharge pressure of a lower value. This paper will deal with various subjects concerning gas pressure regulators including definition, basic design, types of loading, caputcity, proper sizing, and proper selection. For purposes of this paper, we consider any pressure in excess of one pound as high pressure, and any pressure less than one poand as low pressure.
