Abstract: Natural gas sources that in the past have been rega rded as unconventional are becoming common. This paper will discuss gas sampling system design fundamentals highlight key aspects of current industry standards explore the challenges associated with sampling unconventional sources such shale formations, deep- water offshore wells and enhanced recovery systems. Methods for the continuous sampl ing natural gas that is wet, at high pressure or even supercritical will be presented. T he primary focus of this paper is on minimizing the error associated with sampling for c ompositional analysis. Sampling considerations associated with the measurement of s ingle components will however also be discussed.
