Abstract: The value of natural gas is rapidly increasing because of declining known reserves in the United States. Much of the demand for gas will be satisfied in the future with yet more expensive synthetic and imported gases. Because of the increased value of gas, it is essential that accurate measurement be obtained. The meter is the cash register of the gas industry. Accurate measurement provides a solid foundation for adequate return on expensive investments and also helps eliminate unnecessary waste of natural energy by supplying reliable data for unaccountedfor gas reports. These reports establish guidelines for system maintenance. Therefore, the design of these facilities is of utmost importance. Also, the designer must adhere to the safety regulations that are now the law. The following comments are a general discussion of things to consider.
