Abstract: Natural gas - the cotranodity that we have all come to know, was not considered a primary source of energy in the early 1900s. Manufactured gas was predominantly in the cities for operation of street lamps and to some extent, heating and other processes. Although natural gas was considered to be a more efficient fuel, the problem of transporting this fuel from the production field to the consumer was a monumental task.
