Abstract: Telemetering in some form or another has been an integral part of data acquisition and control systems in the gas industry for many years now. In an operation as diverse as a gas distribution or transmission system, the information needed to monitor and control these systems can be spread out over many hundreds of miles. There has always been a need to centralize this information in one place. With the increasing use of computers and the need for better and more precise control techniques, accurate data transmission is a must. The intent of this paper is to provide some background into the telemetry systems which have been used over the years and to take a look at what a typical modern digital telemetry system involves.
