Abstract: In a fundamental sense, data and data programs of calibration laboratories are no different than any other management tool or piece of equipment. They need to be assessed with a critical eye at regular intervals and the elements found to be useful and profitable should be retained and those elements found to be unnecessary3 unused, or unprofitable should be discontinued or modified. In these days of electronic data processing, extensive and complex data programs are feasible and there has been a tendency to gather and process much data of questionable value just because there was computer time and programming time available. As more and more good programs come into being, our data processing capability is being severely strained and we need to get rid of unproductive data programs.
