Abstract: Solid state systems are electronic circuits used in place of other types of electronic or electro-mechanical devices to accomplish a particular function. The basic active components of solid state circuits are a variety of devices (amplifiers and switches) resulting from advances in semiconductor technology. There are many reasons why solid state systems are finding wide application. Their comparatively small size requires less space than other devices the lack of moving or fragile parts results in greater reliability and simpler packaging. Operating from low voltage supplies and with low power consumption, semiconductors are used extensively in portable equipment.
