Abstract: Surge protection in liquid pipelines is a requirement in any type of system that is operating at pressures close to the pipeline pressure rating. Under these conditions any change in fluid velocity can cause the internal pressure to exceed the pipe pressure rating, potentially damaging the pipeline. The following Is description of a simple pressure surge. The components are a reservoir, a pipeline and a valve.
