Abstract: TNO has developed a fibre optic based vortex meter specifically aimed at high- temperature steam applications. This development wa s sponsored by Shell and a commercial version of the meter will be sold as Sm artFlow by Smart Fibres Ltd, a UK company specializing in fibre optic sensors. Besides being able to measure volume flow rate in a (near)-single phase flow, the meter was specifically designed to give an indicati on of the amount of liquid present in a two phase flow. This was verified in b oth low-pressure air-water flow loop tests and in high pressure, high temperature, wet steam tests
